About Dr Marlene Bothma

Dr Marlene Bothma is a female Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with over 15 years of expertise both locally and internationally. She provides modern comprehensive diagnostic and treatment modalities in a caring environment for women throughout all seasons of life. Her primary interests are high-risk obstetrics, multiple pregnancies, investigation and management of recurrent pregnancy losses, adolescent gynaecology, contraception, infertility and menopause.

Originally from South Africa, Dr Bothma completed her undergraduate medical training at the University of the Free State, followed by specialist training at the University of the Witwatersrand. Her specialist training included valuable experience at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg. This is the largest hospital in Africa, and one of the largest in the world with approximately 17,000 babies born a year.  She relocated to Australia in 2021 and became a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

She holds an academic position as senior lecturer at the University of Notre Dame and is passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of doctors and specialists.

Beyond her clinical practice, she is married and a mother to two sets of twins. She is extremely passionate about her local close-knit community in the Riverina. She and her family are delighted to now call Wagga Wagga home. Her own experience of pregnancy, birth and motherhood gives her a dual perspective of clinical care and a deeply empathetic and personal connection with her patients.
